Aimed at individuals with little experience of the subject of media, this course will offer a general introduction to media.  This course will include screening of a film; still image analysis; denotation and connotation; codes - visual (pictorial, graphic and presentation) and aural (vocal, musical and sound effects); mise-en-scene: lighting; colour or black and white; use of camera; genre; gender; marketing, audience and distribution; narrative theory; representation and ideology.
